LEON ERDREICH 1846-1915

Leon Erdreich together with his wife and two sons, later known as Oscar and Paul, migrated to the USA from Romania, travelling on the L Aquitaine from Le Havre in France to New York, arriving 26 Aug 1900. They were preceded by their son Alexander and his wife Anna who departed departed Hamburg in Germany on the Graf Waldersee to New York, arriving 11 Feb 1900. They were followed by their son, later known as Jacob and his wife Gisela and their first two children and her mother Bertha who departed from Le Havre to New York on the La Touraine arriving 14 Jun 1902.

Leon and Jennie both have headstones in the Mount Moriah Cemetery at Fairview in Bergen County, New Jersey showing the surname Erdreich. By 1920 their children were all using Eldridge as their surname.

• Jacob was a clothing cutter, tailor and wholesale clothing dealer in New York. His son Zachary studied at the New York Dental College and was shown as a dentist in New York in the 1930 and 1940 US census.
• Alexander worked in a ladied dress store in 1930 and 1940 and was a dress cutter in 1950. His first wife Anna has a headstone in the Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, Bergen County, New Jersey showing Eldridge as the surname. Her father was shown as Arthur Blumfield and the father of Alexander's second wife Mina was shown as Isaac Blumenfeld. Whether their maiden surname should be the same and they are related is unknown.
  His son Irving Eldridge was a professional boxer in 88 bouts for 62 wins, 11 drawn and 15 lost between 1933 and 1940 including 4 bouts in Australia between Dec 1939 and Mar 1940.
• Oscar was a dentist in New York and his son Leonard worked in advertising in New York.
• Paul Eldridge was a New York High School teacher and a novelist and poet.
