Thomas was baptised at St Mary Putney the son of William Henry and Elizabeth Sophia Eldridge, a painter and glazier of Putney. He first married Henrietta Charlotte and they had two children at Putney before Henrietta died in 1846. Thomas remarried Emily in 1847 and they had four known children at Putney before the family moved to Bromborough, Cheshire, England before the birth of their daughter Lenne in 1856. Thomas worked at Bromborough in the candle works and was later a foreman candle oil maker.
Two granddaughters of Thomas and his second wife Emily are known to have migrated to Western Australia in January 1921 on different ships. They were Caroline Emily Coulston who had married Walter Frank Ward in 1912 and they migrated with their daughter Margaret and her younger sister Lenne Amelia Coulston who had married Sidney Alfred Born in 1919. They both remarried in 1953.
The grandparents of Thomas are believed to be William Eldridge who married Mary Cooper on 11 Oct 1787 at Mortlake, Surrey, England. William may be the brother of James Eldridge who married at Mortlake in 1784.
