She is shown as Mary Eldridge age 16, a servant in the Webb household at Westfield on the 1841 census. In the 1851 census she is shown as a daughter Mary West age 24 born Westfield in the same Webb household with her son shown as William H Webb age 6 born Westfield.
William Henry Eldridge married Caroline Goodsell on 13 Sep 1868 at St Mary Magdalen, Hastings, Sussex, England. His entry in the marriage register shows him as illegitimate. Subsequent census records show he was born at Westfield, Sussex about 1844. After his marriage the family moved to Tunbridge Wells in Kent and he was initially a labourer and later a coal carter.
